WE WILL ADDRESS
Many people are wondering but are afraid to ask. You'll get answers here.
We ALL dance in front of it. If you're missing this piece, you'll REALLY struggle to understand the current climate.
Whether you are a student, professional dancer, dance teacher, choreographer or studio owner, there ARE tangible things you can do to bring about positive change that brings a just peace to our communities, our nation, and our world.
Hi, I'm Karida, and I am a professional dancer, dance educator, artist-in-residence, and trainer of tap dance teachers.
My performing credits include
Radio City Rockettes,
Cirque du Soleil, and
Dorrance Dance.
My experiences as an educator include:
* Pace University Commercial Dance Program (Professor for Tap Dance),
* Broadway Dance Center in NYC (Tap Dance Faculty),
* Tap festivals across North America
* Various dance conventions
* 17+ years of recreational & competitive dance studio teaching
* Guest performer & lecturer in K-8 schools, providing a historical perspective and social context for Tap dance and Body percussion (since 2016).
In 2018 I founded the Tap Teachers' Lounge - an online training program for Tap dance teachers in the dance studio setting.
In 2020 I began offering seminars about Racism & the Dance World, and I founded the 6-week program:
Roots, Rhythm, Race & Dance
A professional development program for dance educators that helps them to deliver age-appropriate history lessons for their students.
This has been featured in Dance Teacher Magazine.

In my work with professional dancers & dance educators, I've encouraged the principle of maintaining the value of their work, so I'm taking my own advice!
This presentation will be based on my professional work as an artist-in-residence that I've been doing since 2016, as well as the content of my Roots, Rhythm Race & Dance online professional development program.
I continue to offer free content via my blog series, IG, etc.
While this is a conversation about making the world a more just and safe place for our children, we will address sensitive material in a way that is more suited to a mature audience.
I do believe that high school aged students are capable of handling the content, but 15 is the minimum age I feel comfortable with.
Parents of younger dance students are HIGHLY encouraged to attend, and then decide what & how to share with their children.
